Inlays and onlays are tooth-colored restorations used to repair moderately damaged teeth due to decay. They offer a more durable alternative to traditional fillings when a significant portion of the tooth structure is compromised. At SameDay Dental Clinic, you can get your inlays and onlays in just a few hours.
Inlays are custom-made restorations designed to fit within the cusps (raised points) of a tooth. They are used for smaller areas of damage on the chewing surface of the tooth. Unlike fillings where a composite material is used fill the space, an inlay is made from a solid piece of material (porcelain, composite resin, or gold) that is made in our onsite dental lab. Inlays hold for a significantly longer time without shrinkage or staining.
Onlays, also known as partial crowns, are larger restorations that extend over one or more cusps of the tooth. They are used for more extensive damage that involves the sides of the tooth in addition to the chewing surface. Like inlays, we craft onlays in our dental lab using high quality materials that will last many years.
